Green power meter – live data monitor

details

This article describes how to make and install the device which can monitor and measure how much energy is produced by the energy generating facilities such as the solar photovoltaic energy generator and the wind turbine energy generator etc. Actually, the author has much interest in the green energy production as usaual. Therefore, he wants to equip the complete energy generating system to produce by himself enough energy for a daily life. And then he is also able to be free from an energy consumption cost in a daily life. In order to equip such a system, the author wants to know an actual generating capability needed. And then if he realizes how much energy can be generated, he can do the optimal investment without any money waste. This is the main reason why the author designed such a monitoring device first.

The author installed this device onto the existing solar photovolatic energy generator as well as the wind turbine energy generator. This monitoring system is delivering information like how much energy is produced in real time. The author can equip the optimized green energy generating facility at his home. This monitoring device seems to be very useful for those who want to install the Green energy self-generating facility.

The monitoring device consists of mainly the below components.

  1. 2013 Version ATmega32U2 ATmega328P UNO R3 Board & Free USB Cable for Arduino DIY
  2. Ethernet Shield W5100 Network Expansion Board For Arduino UNO R3 Mega 2560
  3. Hall Effect Current Sensor For Hobbyist, Arduino Compatible, AC 75A DC 100A
  4. Octopus Voltage Divider Module Electronic Bricks for Arduino
  5. DS18B20 Waterproof Temperature Sensors Thermistor Temperature Control hv2n
  6. 1602 LCD Board Keypad Shield Blue Backlight For Arduino Expansion Board

In this project, data taken from arduino via sensors are transmitted to a web server online to be saved and viewed. The Author used noninvasive current sensors for measuring current from photovoltaic panels and wind turbine, battery voltage sensor and two temperature sensors DS18B20 digital. Currently two locations are monitored, containing mixed wind and photovoltaic energy systems and data are stored on the web server. Now he can watch anytime how much energy is produced at home and at work from any computer connected to the Internet, even on his smartphone.
