Arduino power consumption monitor

details

comparing-measurements-1024x461

Project Description

This project checks power consumption and also sends in real-time the data to a remote server.

The design is made with the assuption that the device is used in household consumptions, which are ohmic in majority.

So from current intensity(Ampere) and the knowledge of potential difference(Volt) we can estimate, with almost zero deviation, the current power consumption(Watt) according to this formula:

P = V * I.

Components

1. Arduino Uno

arduino-uno

2. SCT-013 current transformer

sct013

3. Ethernet shield

w5100

4. Server

Author has own media server and don’t mention it. But server is needed to run web server.

Test

The author tests the device is actually giving the real measurements with a multimeter.

test1

To obtain the current intensity the mulimeter had to be connected in series between the power supply and the testing device.
