‘iamnotathermostat’ is the controller of multiple heaters, wireless sensor nodes and up to 1024 remote (433MHz) power outlets.
When discounter radiator thermostats was out of order, the author hacked them into a smart home device. It’s accessible via its web interface, where you can see the current temperature, set the target temperature and switch the power outlets.
The hacked thermostat is powered by an Arduino Mega + Ethernet Shield, which controls the salvaged mechanical heater valve, the LCD display and the hacked 433 MHz remote. The valve has been upgraded with a rotary encoder for accurate valve positioning. The Arduino provides a GET-in JSON-out web server API which is then accessed by a jQuery/JavaScript realtime action overloaded hyper bootstrapped shiny web interface hosted on a regular web server.
