This new Arduino Ethernet board with PoE support titled Squama, widely supports the design of new applications.

Longan Labs begins development of the Squama seriesof Ethernet cards for Internet of Things ( IoT ) applications. The first model in this family is the Squama Ethernet – Arduino W5500 Ethernet Board , which integrates with a high-performance Cortex M0 + based MCU and a W5500 Ethernet control chipto support the design of Ethernet-based applications.

The card is integrated with the chip ATSAMD21G18 32 bit Atmel which is based on the microcontroller Cortex-M0 + of up to 48 MHz . The chip is characterized by a 256 KB system self-programming flash memory , a 32 KB SRAM memory and power-on reset ( POR ) and brown-out detection ( BOD ), which usually disables the microcontroller that monitors the voltage level of the power during operation.

The interfaces comprise SPI MODE 0, 3, a Grove connector for I2C and UART, and an RJ45 connector .

With a format of 62 x 30 mm and 15 g (without PoE) or 20 g (with PoE), it is also distinguished by a supply voltage of 5 V via USB and 48 ~ 57 V via PoE, an output current 2 Amp , a WS2812B LED, and reset and user buttons.

The hardware is designed to use a bootloader like Arduino Zero that allows the Arduino IDE to be used in programming tasks.

In order to work with this card, the Arduino IDE needs to be installed on Windows, macOS and Ubuntu based systems . From the menu , it is possible to go to the “preferences” search for “Longan”. In this way, you can download the latest SAMD Longan card and then select the Squama Ethernet card.
